City man stabbed to death

A man is dead after being stabbed by his brother early Saturday morning.

According to Goldsboro police, Charles Ervin Barnes Jr., 35, was found dead inside his home when officers responded to a call at 808 N. Virginia St. at 12:46 a.m.

He had been stabbed with a kitchen knife.

After an investigation by Inv. J.T. Beeken, the man's younger brother, Alonza Ervin Barnes, 31, who lived with him, was arrested at the scene without incident and charged with an open count of murder.

According to the police report, Alonza Barnes was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol at the time. It was unknown if Charles Barnes was.

Police would not comment on any possible motive.

Alonza Barnes was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
