GRANTHAM -- The Grantham Grange will celebrate Grange Month on April 23 when it hosts its first Community Service Awards program at 6:30 p.m. at Selah Christian Church.

The following awards will be presented: Church of the Year; Educator of the Year; Fire Department of the Year; Firefighter of the Year; Rescueperson of the Year; Law Enforcement Officer of the year; Military Person of the Year; Youth of the Year; and Volunteer of the Year as well as several Grange awards.

Grantham Grange recently donated $396 to Grantham School's kindergarten classes for three sets of books used to assess students. It also donated $300 to the school's Relay for Life team.

The Grange is a nonpartisan organization that provides fun-filled and educational programs and activities for its members, said Bobby Crawford, president of the Grantham Grange.

It also provides members with a forum to voice their political concerns and teaches them how to strengthen their community through legislative action, he said.

"A family organization, the Grange devotes its efforts to community service with a special interest in agriculture, legislative and other issues that affect rural North Carolina," he said. "We will be recognizing several individuals and organizations that have exhibited the true meaning of excellence in our community.

"During Grange Month we want all of the communities we are a pat of to know that the Grange is a living organization that has a lot to offer."

Anyone interested in more information or in attending the event should contract Crawford at 689-3135 or 344-9911.
