Wayne County commissioners this morning decided to take up an item that might soon be good news for the local economy.

During the board's work session, members voted to add consideration of a public hearing for an economic development incentive package to their agenda.

The hearing, which was expected to be scheduled during the 9 a.m. meeting, would be for the consideration of a $100,000 incentive package for a confidential industry prospect. The prospect, which county officials refused to name or give any further information about, would create 42 jobs with an average salary for $33,000 each, plus health benefits. It also would make $4 million investment in equipment.

The incentive package would be a state and local match, meaning each would put up $100,000.

The hearing was expected to be scheduled for 9:15 a.m., April 17.
