Troopers look for driver
The state Highway Patrol say they are continuing to look for the driver believed to be responsible for a traffic incident that resulted in a Wayne County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle crashing into a wooded area.
Officials say the Sheriff's Office 2010 Dodge Charger, valued at approximately $20,000, was totaled.
Deputy Garrison Nance was driving the patrol vehicle north on U.S. 117 around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when a burgundy vehicle pulled in front of him as it left the parking lot of The Pantry, a convenience store located at 1098 U.S. 117 N., near the intersection with Arrington Bridge Road.
According to statements, the deputy was forced to swerve to avoid an accident.
Officials with the Highway Patrol said physical evidence corroborates the deputy's claim that he swerved to avoid a collision.
Investigators have obtained surveillance video from the convenience store to better identify the vehicle, officials said.
B&Es and larcenies
*Jerry Anderson reported an armed robbery in the 200 block of Linwood Avenue that occurred outside of his home around 9:50 p.m. Monday. He told police one of the three men walking in front of his home threatened him. An altercation then took place, during which Anderson hit the subject with a roll of duct tape. Anderson was then struck in the head and his wallet was stolen.
*Antwon Travis reported the theft of a Smith and Wesson .40-caliber semi-automatic firearm from his vehicle while it was parked in the 400 block of Hollowell Street. His car was left unsecured and the firearm, valued at $375, was taken from the trunk. The theft occurred between Dec. 10 and Dec. 16.
*Mary Powell reported the larceny of a pink and black .38-caliber revolver from her purse on Monday. The purse was at a friend's house when the gun valued at $499.99, was removed.
*Jhennifer Bizzell reported the burglary at her home in the 200 block of South Harding Drive on Monday. She said her home may have been unsecured when an unknown suspect(s) removed a 60" television valued at $1,000.
*Carolyn Denning reported a break-in at his home in the 100 block of Heather Ann Lane in Dudley that occurred Tuesday. The suspect(s) stole a $500 TV during the incident.
