Even with a Nov. 8 ballot offering very few local elections, two people were still at the Wayne County Board of Elections by 7:58 a.m. this morning when the county's single one-stop voting site opened at 8 a.m. at the election board's office on William Street.

"There wasn't quite a line, but they were here," Wayne County Board of Elections Director Vickie Reed said. "Unfortunately, one wanted to vote on the city of Goldsboro."

Elections in Goldsboro, Mount Olive and Fremont, where board members are elected by districts, have been postponed until next spring because of redistricting.

The only local elections this year are for Seven Springs, Eureka and Walnut Creek and for the Fork Township, Northwestern Wayne, Southern Wayne and Southwestern Wayne sanitary districts.

The other person, a part-time employee with the election office, did vote.

One-stop voting is scheduled to continue:

* Oct. 21, 24 to 28, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1-4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily

* Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

New voters may complete a voter registration form and vote during the one-step voting period.

The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot by mail is Nov. 1, at 5 p.m. The deadline for returning absentee ballots to the Board of Elections is Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.

Filing for Goldsboro, Mount Olive and Fremont will begin at noon on Feb. 13, 2012, and end at noon on Feb. 29. The Mount Olive and Fremont elections will be held May 8. Goldsboro's primary, if there are more than two candidates per seat, also would be May 8, with the election June 26.
