Local couple honored with Long Leaf Pine awards

Betty Ellis speaks during a ceremony at Goldsboro Country Club Thursday afternoon during which she was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award given by the governor to a citizen. Mrs. Ellis' late husband, Charles Brantley Ellis, was posthumously presented with the same award during the ceremony. Mr. Ellis died earlier this year in February. N.C. Rep. Efton Sager presented the awards. Mrs. Ellis said the event was an unbelievable experience.
