Disaster recovery centers open

Disaster recovery centers have been opened in Greene and Lenoir counties to help those with property damage and other setbacks from Hurricane Irene.
The Greene County center is located at the Snow Hill Fire Station, 201 Carolina Drive, Snow Hill and the Lenoir County center at the Cooperative Extension Center, 1791 Pink Hill Road, Kinston.
The centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until further notice. Representatives from state emergency management, FEMA and other agencies will be on hand to explain assistance programs and help hurricane survivors apply for disaster aid.
Before going to a center, people with storm losses are encouraged to register with FEMA by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov. People who have a speech disability or are deaf or hard of hearing may call (TTY) 800-462-7585; users of 711 or Video Relay Service can call 800-621-3362.
