Spring Creek student wins new TV for perfect attendance

Spring Creek High School recently participated in the "Chevy Drive for Perfection" initiative, promoting perfect attendance among high school seniors, with the chance to win as a car as an incentive. Participating schools also had a chance to earn monetary donations. Staying in school can pay off.
School officials already tout the importance of graduating and earning a high school diploma as the gateway to a college education or better job opportunities.
This past school year, Chevrolet of Goldsboro teamed up with Wayne County Public Schools, promoting an initiative that featured a perfect attendance component.
"Chevy Drive for Perfection" was created to give seniors an added incentive to complete high school, with one of the prizes being the chance to win a 2011 Chevy Cruze for having perfect attendance.
As part of the program, seniors attending a sponsored high school and who achieved a 98 percent or better attendance record were eligible to win the car.
Participating high schools also had the opportunity to raise additional funds by promoting a "Test Drive Campaign," earning monetary donations for each person who test drove a Chevrolet vehicle at the sponsoring dealership.
More than 700 schools were sponsored, with 10 vehicles given away throughout the southeast region, officials said.
Spring Creek High School was among those that participated in the program.
When the drawing was recently held in Fayetteville, a senior at the school was among the runners-up for the car.
Hector Cantera also won a 32-inch flatscreen TV, officials said.
The school itself also had an impressive response from the student body, earning $2,500 for Spring Creek from Chevrolet Cadillac of Goldsboro.
"We're excited to offer a program through which students, parents, administrators and the community can work as one to achieve a brighter future," said Paul Benton of Chevrolet of Goldsboro. "It's important for us to show we care about what happens in our community and the Chevy Drive for Perfection is a great motivator for students to go and stay in school."
Dr. Steven Taylor, superintendent of schools, also commented on the contest, applauding the inclusion of a perfect attendance component.
"Attendance is a key factor in student learning and academic success," he said. "We appreciate Chevrolet for providing an attendance incentive program such as this, as well as Chevrolet Cadillac of Goldsboro for its donation.
"As educators, it's always exciting to heat about programs and initiatives such as this that encourage students to be successful in school."
