Charles B. Aycock High School and Wayne Memorial Hospital were two local blood drive sponsors recognized at an awards luncheon last week in Wilmington.
They were among eight sponsors who received awards for their blood drives in 2010.
The awards were from the Carolinas Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, of which Wayne County is a part.
"The American Red Cross is proud to partner with these special sponsors," said Joyce Brendel, CEO of the Carolinas Blood Services Region. "We are grateful for their dedication and commitment of service to our community.
Others receiving awards were General Electric, New Hanover County employees, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and New Hanover Health Network in Wilmington; Smithfield Selma High School in Smithfield; and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
The Carolinas Blood Services Region provides lifesaving blood to 103 hospitals, and must have 1,600 people give blood and platelets each weekday to meet the needs.
