KINSTON -- Authorities continued to search today for the body of 10-year-old Henry Javregui after the boy drowned Sunday in the Neuse River in western Lenoir County.

Search teams from several counties are involved in the search, using sonar in an attempt to find his body. Teams worked until after dark Monday before stopping for the night.

Henry, a student at West Greene Central Middle School, was fishing with family members Sunday shortly after noon near Hardy Bridge in the Moss Hill section of Lenoir County when he apparently stepped into a hole in the river and went under.

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.

Investigators said the boy's father jumped into the water to try to save him but the current pulled the boy away and he could not be reached.

The Neuse is swollen due to recent rains and its level has been rising for the past several days. According to the National Weather Service, it was expected to crest at Goldsboro today at about 10 feet, still well below flood stage. The crest would reach Hardy Bridge by late this week.

Authorities have searched day and night since the accident, using teams and sonar equipment.

By late Sunday afternoon investigators said the rescue mission had become a recovery mission.
