Arts Day in Raleigh on April 11-12

Sarah Merritt of the Arts Council of Wayne County has been named as regional captain for Arts Day 2011 to be held in Raleigh April 11-12.
Arts Day is North Carolina's annual legislative and professional development event produced by Arts North Carolina, North Carolina's statewide advocacy organization for all the arts.
Mrs. Merritt will set legislative appointments with state senators and representatives, communicate schedule and event messages, and coordinate transportation.
Arts Day 2011 will bring together hundreds of citizens from across North Carolina to speak about the essential role arts play in our economy, education, and civic life of Wayne County.
"Last year Wayne County had one of the largest groups," she said. "This year, we'd like to be even bigger. Every voice matters!"
April 12 is the primary Legislative Day, beginning with an address from Secretary of Cultural Resources Linda Carlisle and a presentation of the first Arts Day Artist Award to world renowned jazz singer, composer, producer, arranger and six-time Grammy Nominee Nnenna Freelon.
Arts Day officially kicks off on April 11 at 1 p.m. with workshops to be held at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Participants will be treated to a docent tour of 30 Americans, featuring the work of 31 African American contemporary artists. Workshops include a panel of legislative leaders, a presentation and discussion of the North Carolina Arts Council's Smart Cities, Smart Towns Task Force, and Legislative Day training. A reception will be held at Artspace in downtown Raleigh's Moore Square beginning at 5:30 p.m.
