Kinston turkey plant damaged by fire

KINSTON -- On Monday, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the Kinston Department of Public Safety, along with the North Lenoir Volunteer Fire Department, responded to a report of a structure fire at the Carolina Turkey plant at 4125 Berkley Ave. in Kinston.
Upon arrival they found the structure fully involved with heavy smoke and flames.
All Carolina Turkey personnel were out of the building when fire rescue units arrived.
By approximately 3:30 p.m., firefighters extinguished the fire and had the incident under control.
Authorities said there were no injuries.
The structure sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.
Investigators said that the fire might have originated near the loading dock, located on the west side of the building but the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
