Little Washington, the "town within a town," will hold its seventh annual reunion on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Waynesborough Historical Village on U.S. 117 Bypass.

The former Goldsboro community ran from U.S. 117 South to Center Street and from Miller Avenue to Elm Street.

Resident say the neighborhood once bustled with activity, containing restaurants, cab stands, shoe repair shops, nightclubs, doctors and lawyers offices, churches and schools.

Urban renewal projects changed the landscape, though, when public housing took over much of the area in the 1970s.

In 2003, several former residents organized a reunion as a way to reunite with friends and neighbors who once inhabited that community. It has become an annual event.

Saturday's celebration will include food, singing, special speakers and a time of fellowship.

Anyone with pictures taken in the Little Washington area is asked to bring them to share.
