Central alumni to meet

The Central High School-Eastern Wayne High School reunion will be held Friday through Sunday.

Brenda Rowe of Montreal, Canada, formerly of the Parkstown community, will be the guest speaker for the event's banquet on Friday night at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

A member of the Eastern Wayne Class of 1970, she is an administrator at John Abbott College, where she oversees the management of the Student Success Office, the Cultural Diversity Office, the Aboriginal Student Resource Centre, the Learning Centre, Special Needs Services and the college's Read and Write Lab. She also teaches in the Women's Studies Department at Concordia University.

She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Oakwood College in Alabama and her master's degree in student personnel administration from Iowa State University.

She is the founder and president of BFR Consultants.

Billie R. Whitfield of the Central High Class of 1950 will be the speaker for the awards and gospel program on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Woods Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

He lives in Lanham, Md., and is retired after 33 years with the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. He graduated from the International Tabulating Institute as a computer programmer and operator.

The Central High classes of 1940, 1950 and 1960, along with the Eastern Wayne classes of 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010 will honored.

The weekend of events begins with Friday night's banquet.

A Dutch breakfast will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Madison's restaurant. The annual parade will be held at noon in the Central Heights community, with the lineup starting at 11 a.m. at Eastern Wayne Middle School.

The annual family picnic will be held at Eastern Wayne Middle School at 1 p.m. Dinner will be served from 2-3:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and there will be games and activities for all ages. A hospitality hour will be held at 9 p.m. at the Frink Alumni Center in LaGrange. Tickets are $15.

The weekend will end with the awards and gospel program.
