The following is a schedule of events set for this Memorial Day weekend:
Saturday, 8 a.m. -- Join members of the Wayne County Veterans and Patriots Coalition at the American Legion headquarters off N.C. 117, just beyond the fairgrounds, for breakfast. After the meal, those in attendance will be given flags to place on the graves of those who served.
Monday, 11 a.m. -- The Wayne County Veterans and Patriots Coalition will host a Memorial Day service in the Wayne Community College auditorium. The hour-long event will include local singer/songwriter Holly Jones performing each of the branches' songs, a tribute to fallen service members -- including Goldsboro native Bobby "Bud" Lane -- and several videos meant to stress the meaning and importance of the holiday.
