A rear-end collision between a charter bus carrying teenage children from the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf and a truck just before 9 a.m. on U.S. 117 near Mar Mac injured at least three people this morning.

Investigating Highway Patrol Trooper L. Bunn was at the scene and said he had just started his investigation.

However, he said early indications were that the driver of the tour bus came up to a red light, where a green truck was stopped.

The tour allegedly did not stop in time, striking the rear of the truck.

At least two students and the driver of the truck were carried to the hospital.

At least one teenager was seen being walked off the tour bus with a neck brace before being put into a stretcher, his head padded on either side with towels to prevent any further movement.

Another teen had already been transported, and authorities anticipated transporting at least one more rider on the tour bus.

The investigating trooper said he would not release names until he was further into his investigation.

The driver of the tour bus was on scene and seemingly uninjured.

He said he did not want to be interviewed or give his name until the trooper's investigation was complete.
