Wayne County Public Schools will hold a Title I parent workshop on Thursday at the H.V. Brown Center on Poplar Street, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Dr. Marcia Tate will be the guest speaker for the event. She is the author of the best-selling book, "Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies That Engage the Brain."
Parents will be presented with "brain-friendly" strategies to help actively engage students in the learning process, including using humor and telling stories, implementing problem-based instruction, incorporating games into learning, utilizing mnemonic devices and metaphors, and singing and dancing while learning.
"This parent workshop will be a fun, free and educational opportunity, and we encourage parents to attend. Being engaged in their child's learning is the best way to help students succeed in school and in life," said Tomekia Hutchins, WCPS Title I Parent Facilitator.
The event is free, but reservations are required. Call 731-5908 or 705-6178.
