The 15th annual Benefit Tasting of Wines and silent auction will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Herman Park Center. This year's Benefit Tasting of Wines will spotlight the Goldsboro Junior Woman's Club Shoe Fund.
The annual benefit partners with local charities and has provided more than $140,000 to organizations in Wayne County over the past 14 years. Several recent partnerships include the Soup Kitchen, Habitat for Humanity and the Paramount Theater.
The Shoe Fund provides school officials with $40 vouchers that are redeemable at Shoe Show for students in need. School representatives then accompany identified students to Shoe Show to purchase socks and shoes up to the $40 amount of the voucher. And, to help those vouchers go further, Shoe Show also provides a 10 percent discount for each 'Shoe Fund' recipients.
As a result of this program, the Junior Woman's Club is able to provide shoes to nearly 200 children each year.
This year's Benefit Tasting of Wines and silent auction will feature nine different distributors and importers pouring their newest and best selections for 2009. More than 100 different wines will be available from all over the world with something for everyone to enjoy. Many famous wineries will be there along with some unique smaller groups that are upcoming stars in the wine trade. In addition, there will be more than 35 silent auction items available, including signed framed prints, large format bottles, unique bottle sets, one of a kind releases and much more. All items are donated by the participating wineries and 100 percent of the funds raised at the event go to the charity.
The benefit also will feature appetizers, provided by Casey's Catering of Princeton, such as smoked salmon, roast beef, asparagus in pastry, ham biscuits, cheeses and deserts designed to complement the wide variety of wines and champagnes. Performing will be By Chance, a jazz and blues band.
Tickets are only $35 if purchased in advance before Nov. 13 and $40 on the day of the event. Each ticket holder will receive a commemorative wine glass. Tickets may be purchased at HealtHabit Natural Foods, 601 N. Spence Ave. 751-0300, or contact Kristin Neiman of the Goldsboro Junior Woman's Club at 734-1807 for more information.
To just donate to the Shoe Fund, donations can be mailed to the Goldsboro Junior Woman's Club to Sherry Strickland, Goldsboro Junior Woman's Club, 115 Hilldale Lane, Goldsboro, NC 27534. Checks should say in the memo line that it is for the Shoe Fund.
