FREMONT -- The Fremont Friends of the Library will hold a book sale Aug. 4-5 to help raise money for the library building renovation project.

The book sale has been preceded by a two-month long book drive to give the community a chance to donate books, DVDs and CDs to be sold at the August sale.

The book sale is set for Saturday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m until 4 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 5, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

The sale will be held at the Fremont Public Library located at 202 N. Goldsboro St.

Steve Knotts, chairman of the friends group, said that members hope to make the book sale an annual event. They have been sorting and prepping the hundreds of volumes that have been donated.

"There are a lot of very good titles by well known authors," Knotts said. "It's amazing how well the community has risen to the occasion."

The library friends group has other fund raising projects scheduled throughout August including a barbecue chicken dinner Aug. 21.

"The barbecues are very popular events," Knotts said. "This will be the third barbecue that the group has had and they are always a sellout."

County officials had considered closing the Fremont branch but residents have opposed the idea.
