Epicurean Club to sponsor Sickle Cell telethon Aug. 25

The Epicurean Civic Club of Goldsboro has set the goal for its annual sickle cell campaign at $100,000 and are hoping the public will support the effort to help combat the disease.

September has been designated as National Sickle Cell Month and the Epicurean Club is planning its Annual Sickle Cell Telethon on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Berkeley Mall, with a goal of raising $100,000, said campaign Chairman Curtis Meadows Jr.

The entertainment lineup for the event is star-studded, featuring Miss Goldsboro Nicki Sanderson, the Goldsboro Ballet under the direction of Peggy Wingate, the Interpretation Dancers under the direction of Cheryl Hill, the BSA Gospel Singers, gospel singer Zandra Hearn and gospel singer DeMarcus Kelly, the Set Apart Gospel Singers, the Infiniti Dance Teamand special guest Kirby Hamilton.

Donation containers are located at businesses throughout Wayne County.

The show starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. Television coverage will be provided by Channel 10 and radio coverage by WSSG-AM.

Several local civic groups also will be seeking donations at various businesses on behalf of the club's campaign.

Pledges will be accepted through Sept. 30.
