Weather and forest officials are warning those who plan to burn trash today to be careful -- or better yet, to wait.
No ban is in effect, but Forest Ranger Dwight Bright said it would be best to put burning off until after it rains.
The National Weather Service issued a statement this morning that burning is not a good idea because of the dryness and wind gusts in the forecast.
"Forests and fields across central North Carolina remain extremely dry due to the lack of significant rainfall since mid-March," the statement said.
West winds are expected to reach up to 12 miles per hour, not as high as in previous days, but are still a threat because of the low humidity expected to remain throughout the day.
