Bentonville Christmas program Saturday

History buffs help decorate an 1860s style Christmas tree and spend time with Confederate soldiers around the campfire while sipping cider at Bentonville's Christmas Living History Program on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Costumed interpreters will provide insight into the common North Carolina soldier's life during the Civil War. Demonstrations on hand will include musket firings, mail call, discussions on uniforms, and how soldiers spent their furlough while at home. There will also be a small military camp that visitors will be allowed to walk through.
During the program, the kitchen will be open and decorated in festive themes. Volunteers will provide hot cider and cookies to those who tour the kitchen. Visitors can help the costumed volunteers string popcorn and cranberries, cut out paper ornaments and decorate the 1860s-era Christmas tree.
Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site is located three miles north of Newton Grove on Highway 701 and then three miles east on state road 1008. Directions fromGoldsboro: take US 13 south or N.C. 55 to Newton Grove and then take U.S. 701 north to state road 1008.
