Wayne County Public Schools' students will ring in the holidays at Wayne County's annual choral showcase with two performances next week.

The annual holiday showcase began in 2003 with 12 schools participating. It has grown to 25 schools and now spans two nights. Performances, which will be on Tuesday and Thursday nights, will be held at Dillard Middle School starting at 7 p.m.

Tuesday evening will feature choruses from Eastern Wayne, North Drive, Rosewood and Spring Creek elementary schools, Brogden, Eastern Wayne, Mount Olive and Rosewood middle schools, and Eastern Wayne, Goldsboro, Rosewood and Spring Creek high schools.

Featured on Thursday are choruses from Carver, Carver Heights, Fremont Stars, Meadow Lane, Northeast and Tommy's Road elementary schools, Edgewood Community Developmental School, Dillard, Greenwood, Grantham and Norwayne middle schools, and Charles B. Aycock and Southern Wayne high schools.

Admission is $5 per person. Children under 5 years old are admitted free of charge. All proceeds from the performances will be divided among the choral programs of participating schools.

The choral showcase is something the community looks forward to each year, said Dr. Sandra McCullen, associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the school system

"This annual event is a unique opportunity for each school in Wayne County to showcase the talents and work of their school chorus. It also is a great way to kick off the holiday season," she said.
