Wayne County Commission Chairman Atlas Price, on behalf of himself and his family, donated $1,250 for a new animal shelter during Tuesday's commission meeting.
Price said he and his family have always been animal lovers, and there are animals taken every day to the animal shelter that need the public's help.
Price said he would like to see more people donate for a new shelter.
Initial plans estimate the cost of a new facility at $1.2 million. The commissioners have considered many ways to pay for the structure, but County Manager Lee Smith said the plan will likely come to fruition with a combination of county and public funds.
Donations are tax-deductible, and checks can be made out to Wayne County at P.O. Box 227, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533. On the subject line, specify that the check is for the shelter fund.
Checks can also be sent to the local Humane Society chapter at P.O. Box 821, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.
