11 students from Wayne County to attend N.C. Governor's School

Eleven area students are among those who have been selected to participated in the 2006 Governor's School session.

Governor's School is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically/ intellectually gifted high school students in the nation. The program, which is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in the visual/performing arts. Sessions will run from June 18 to July 29 on two campuses. Governor's School West, established in 1963, will be held at Salem College in Winston-Salem, while Governor's School East, established in 1978, will be held at Meredith College in Raleigh.

Two students were chosen from Wayne Country Day School.

Yoo Jin Suh, an 18-year-old junior, will attend Governor's School East in the subject area of art. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seo.

Stephanie Knutson, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Tom Knutson, will attend Governor's School West in the area of dance. The 15-year-old is a sophomore.

From Wayne County Public Schools, the following will be attending Governor's School East in the various subject areas:

*Jamico Chapman, son of Robin Chapman Jacobs of Goldsboro, Goldsboro High, will study art.

*Kristen Prosser, daughter of Randy Prosser and Camille Costa of Pikeville, attends Charles B. Aycock and will study choral music.

*Justin Smith, Spring Creek High, will study choral music. He is the son of Rodney and Belinda Smith of Seven Springs.

*Elizabeth Peele, Charles B. Aycock, will study English. She is the daughter of John and Jackie Peele of Pikeville.

*Nida Waheed, daughter of Waheed Akhtar and Shabana Anwar of Goldsboro, is a student at Charles B. Aycock. She will study natural science.

*Haley Thornton, daughter of Harold and Kathy Thornton of Goldsboro, is a student at Southern Wayne High. She will study natural science.

The following students will be attending Governor's School West:

*Paul Richter, son of Michael and Jane Richter of Goldsboro, a student at Spring Creek High, will study mathematics.

*Jessica Seymour, daughter of Howard and Connie Seymour of Goldsboro, a student at Charles B. Aycock, will study natural science.

*Benjamin Wines of Eastern Wayne High, son of Daniel and Rebecca Wines of Goldsboro, will study natural science.
