New street signs to be erected in Princeton

PRINCETON -- New street signs will be going up soon in Princeton to replace those that were defaced over the last two months.
Police Chief Eddie Lewis told the Princeton town board that the overlays have come in. While the defaced signs are taken down and repaired, the town's extra signs will be put up temporarily. When the repairs are completed, the temporary signs will be moved somewhere else and more repairs will be made.
Lewis said five juveniles have been identified with painting gang-like graffiti around town. The juveniles, or their parents, will have to pay court-ordered restitution for the damages.
Mayor Don Rains announced that the town will get a grant to buy eight benches and eight planters for a downtown beautification project. But Rains said the town was not successful in getting grants for sidewalks and other improvements. Princeton has applied for other grants.
The board approved a suggestion by Fire Chief Ken Starling to have the Princeton name painted on the town's water tower.
Board members also listened as Rains recommend that the town hire a part-time building inspector. Rains said it would be more convenient for developers and would generate revenue for the town.
