Hill named managing editor at News-Argus

Dennis Hill has been named managing editor of the Goldsboro News-Argus.
In his new capacity, Hill will be responsible for the day-to-day news operation at the News-Argus. He also will continue to contribute to the newspaper's redesign and news coverage improvement efforts under the direction of News-Argus editor Renee Carey.
Hill, 51, is a native of Lenoir County and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with degrees in English and history. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and started his journalism career as a part-time sports writer at the Kinston Free Press in 1979. He became sports editor in 1980.
From 1981-85, he worked as a sports writer for the Winston-Salem Sentinel, winning a North Carolina Press Association award for sports feature writing in 1983.
Hill joined the News-Argus staff in March 1986 as a reporter. He has covered nearly every major beat, including city, county and state governments, crime and courts, and politics.
He was named assistant news editor in 1996.
Hill worked as a reporter for the Fayetteville Observer and as a copy editor for the Kinston Free Press in 2003, returning to the News-Argus staff in March 2004 as a staff photographer.
He was named city editor in January 2005.
Hill has a son, Zachary, a senior at East Carolina University.
