Woman robbed
A Goldsboro woman was assaulted and robbed before dawn today of three rings, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Debra Sampson told police that a black man had grabbed her by the neck and forced her into her home in the 600 block of Corney Street. He threw her on the couch, straddled her, threatened to shoot her and grabbed two rings from her right hand and one from her left hand, the report said. The suspect then fled in what was described as a white car with an out-of-state license tag.
He was described as being about 30 years old, 5-feet-6 and 180 pounds with a heavy build, short black hair and black eyes. He wore blue jeans, a black coat and a gray hooded sweatshirt.
Chase
A 25-year-old Goldsboro man faces numerous charges after a Wednesday night chase by Goldsboro police.
Perry Terrell Bunn of Maple Street was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest and three misdemeanors -- suspicion of driving while impaired, reckless driving and resisting arrest. Bunn also was wanted on outstanding charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of discharge of a weapon in the city. He also was wanted on a charge of driving while his license was revoked. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $75,400 secured bond.
Assault charge
A Goldsboro teenager was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police and charged with an attempted armed robbery and three counts of discharge of a weapon into a vehicle.
Clementa Artaveous Battle, 17, of Sherard Court was accused of firing into a car Jan. 22 in the 1100 block of Poplar Street after he and two other people were given rides by a couple, investigators said. Damages were estimated at $850 to the car, registered to Tamara Greenfield of Goldsboro.
Battle was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond.
Robbery charge
An additional charge was filed Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office against a man who was arrested after fleeing from a traffic stop. Timothy Wayne Adams, 45, of Old Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive, was charged with common-law robbery, a holdup without the use of a weapon, and misdemeanor second-degree trespass. He remained in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an additional $75,000 secured bond.
Adams was arrested Monday following a chase on Durham Lake and Stevens Mill roads. He was charged with speeding to elude arrest, driving while his license was revoked, an expired registration and resisting arrest. He also was held on an outstanding arrest order.
Break-ins cleared
Several break-ins at farm shops in northern Wayne County were cleared Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with the arrest of a 37-year-old man from Wilson.
Ronnie Lee Hall was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. His secured bond was set at $3,000.
Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris said the arrest followed a break-in at the Evans farm near Fremont. Hall was arrested in late 2005 on similar charges for similar crimes. Some stolen property has been recovered.
4 hurt in wrecks
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $42,000 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-car collision at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Parkway and North Park drives, Goldsboro police said. Eswari Sabanay Agam, 57, of Clara Court, was charged with an improper left turn. The report said Ms. Agam was making a left turn from North Park Drive and her car collided with a car driven by Marion Elihu Mansfield of South Harding Drive.
*A driver was injured and damage was set at $10,000 in a one-car wreck at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday on Ditchbank Road near Wood Peck Road, the Highway Patrol said. Dawn H. Kelly, 36, of Fairmax Road was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The report said her car had crossed the center line in a left curve, had run off the right side and struck a ditch. No charges were filed.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $13,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 6:20 p.m. Monday on U.S. 70 near Piney Grove Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. William S. Wetherington, 70, of New Bern was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where his condition was not immediately available. He was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorist was identified as Jimmy Kornegay, 51, of Piney Grove Church Road, LaGrange.
*Two people were injured in a one-car wreck at 5:48 p.m. Saturday on Stevens Mill Road near Blackjack Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Sitha Beruta Smen, 50, of Jacksonville, and her passenger, Christopher Harrison, 35, of Richard Smith Road, Four Oaks, were released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to maintain lane control. The car, valued at $12,000, was demolished.
Car stolen
A tan, four-door 1989 Lincoln Continental was stolen Wednesday from the owner's yard in the 3800 block of East Ash Street, Goldsboro police reported. The owner, Mike D. Engles, said the disabled car was valued at $1,000. A second unidentified car, owned by another person, also was taken.
