Mount Olive Town Board to be sworn in today

MOUNT OLIVE -- Members of the Mount Olive Town Board of Commissioners will take the oath of office today in a special meeting at Town Hall.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. with a reception afterward.
At a meeting last week, the board approved final plans for a new wastewater treatment plant. The action cleared the way for the town to be able to receive bids for the construction work.
The new treatment plant will have a 2 million-gallon-a-day capacity, and town officials expect to be permitted to treat 1.6 million gallons, all to be dispersed on land the town now owns.
Town Manager Ray McDonald told the board the town can treat all 2 million gallons after buying a little more land on which to apply the effluent.
In other action, commissioners approved hiring a new auditor, Gregory Adams of Wilmington, for $13,500 the first year. McDonald said the town cannot start issuing the bonds to pay for the new wastewater treatment plant until after an audit contract is approved.
"This should have been started a month ago," he said, "and they feel they can do it in six to eight weeks."
In other business, town commissioners accepted McDonald's retirement letter.
McDonald told the board several people have inquired about the job of town manager. He said he doesn't believe the town will have any trouble finding a new town manager, because "there are a lot of people out there who can do the job. This isn't something you weren't expecting. We've been talking about it for a long time."
