WILSON -- Wilson's first Whirligig street festival will be held in downtown Wilson on Nov. 5 and 6. The two-day event includes free concerts by bluegrass great Doc Watson, the bands Chairmen of the Board and the Super Grit Cowboy Band and others, along with arts and crafts vendors and lots of good food. Vendors from as far away as Georgia and Virginia are scheduled to attend.
The free concerts will be held Saturday along Nash Street, a stretch of several city blocks that recently underwent a major facelift.
A special "Whirli-Kids" area will include rides, games, face painting and balloons.
The festival will also showcase the multiple heritages of people in Wilson. Representatives of 10 heritages will talk about food, dress and other cultural contributions. Special international dance will also be featured.
