Goldsboro firefighters will be "filling the boot" for the Muscular Dystrophy Associ-ation and the families the organization serves this weekend as they try to raise money for research into the disease.

The annual event will be held at Wal-Mart on Spence Avenue, starting today and running through Sunday.

Last year, firefighters raised more than $6,500 and they are hoping to top that amount this year.

The Coastal Carolina MDA District's goal is raise $100,000 during the campaign.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association helps people with 43 neuromuscular diseases, including the provision of wheelchairs, leg braces, communication devices, free clinic visits, support groups and summer camps for children as well as research into finding a cure for the disease.

More information about the campaign and the drive to combat Muscular Dystrophy can be obtained by contacting the Coastal Carolinas MDA office at 1518 Harbour Drive, Wilmington 28401 or by calling the office at 910-791-8585. The email address is wilmingtondistrict@mdausa.org.
