Third suspect
held in robbery
A third person was arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with the armed robbery of the BB&T branch bank in the Little River Shopping Center.
Warren L. Baker Jr., 19, of Courtyard Circle was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $201,500 secured bond.
Baker was accused of robbing the bank at 1326 W. Grantham St. at about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday with two other people.
The others -- Jobias Vondrea Artis, 22, of North Drive and Lashanda Novella Varn, 22, of West Oak Street -- were arrested later Wednesday. Each was charged with armed robbery.
Baker was arrested by Investigator Chad Calloway and A-shift patrol officers after an anonymous caller reported that the suspect was in an apartment in the 200 block of Wisteria Road. Baker locked himself in the apartment for a short time but later surrendered to police at the front door.
Baker also was held on an earlier outstanding warrant for armed robbery. He also was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and injury to real property.
Woman robbed
A woman taking a deposit to a bank was robbed Thursday by an armed man as she stopped for a traffic light, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Sherrie Coley of Goldsboro told police that she had stopped at about 7:45 a.m. on an exit ramp from Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, at Cuyler Best Road. She was taking a deposit from the McDonald's restaurant at 2002 Wayne Memorial Drive to BB&T on North Berkeley Boulevard.
The report said a white man driving a late-model car stopped alongside her, displayed a handgun, reached into her open window and grabbed the money bag from the passenger seat. The suspect then got back in his car and fled east on the bypass. Ms. Coley said another white man was in the car.
The robber was described as being in his 20s, 6-feet and 150 pounds with a slim build, short blond hair and pimples. He wore a cap, a dark T-shirt and blue jeans.
Accidents
Two people were injured Thursday in two traffic accidents in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car collision at 3:41 p.m. Thursday at South George and West Elm streets. Samuel Exum, 16, of Brock Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other motorist was listed as Walter Robert Gainey, 75, of Massey Road, Dudley. No charges were filed.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-car crash on Wayne Memorial Drive near 11th Street. Patricia B. Williams, 44, of Maple Street was released after emergency-room treatment. Christopher David Daniel, 18, of Old Black Creek Road, Fremont, was charged with an improper turn. Damages were set at $1,200.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A thief damaged a truck door between Wednesday and Thursday night and stole $5 in the Convalescent Transport parking lot at 2402 E. Ash St., Goldsboro police said. The owner, Linwood Martin Kornegay of Goldsboro, estimated damage at $50. A second person, Mark Joseph Krameke of Goldsboro, reported the theft of a combination radio and compact disc player, 48 CDs and tools from his unlocked car. The property was valued at $350.
*A combination radio and compact disc player was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday after a car window was smashed in the 1400 block of East Walnut Street, police said. The owner and resident, Larry Donnell Jones, put a $315 value on his property and set damage at $125.
*A 32-inch television, a combination DVD and video cassette recorder and 60 DVDs were stolen Thursday after a window was shattered in an apartment in the 300 block of North James Street, police said. The resident, Walter Blount Jr., estimated the value the property at $759 and damage at $100.
*A red Honda 450 four-wheeler was stolen between Saturday and Thursday from an unlocked barn in the 400 block of Parkstown Road, sheriff's deputies said. The owner and resident, Royce Gray, said the vehicle was worth $6,000.
Drug charge
A 34-year-old man was arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony possession of drugs at Wayne Correctional Institution on Stevens Mill Road. Reginald Eley was brought before a magistrate who set his secured bond at $5,000 and then returned to the prison.
