Passenger injured
in wreck with
Fremont chief
A passenger was injured Tuesday when the car in which she was riding collided with Fremont Police Chief Ben Reid's patrol car at North William Street and Norwood Avenue, Goldsboro police reported.
Amzon Lou Mays, 71, of Claybrooke Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Her driver, Jack Winfield Mays Sr., 73, of Claybrooke Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
The report said Reid, 63, was going north at 10:07 a.m. and Mays was making a left turn into a convenience store parking lot. Damage was set at $100 to each car.
In other accidents:
*Damages were estimated at $5,900 in a two-vehicle crash at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at U.S. 117 South and South George Street, police said. A driver of a tractor-trailer truck, Mark Joseph Dail, 51, of South Landfill Road, Dudley, was charged with a stoplight violation. The report said the northbound rig collided with a car making a left turn. The other driver was identified as Julie Ann Russell, 20, of Hinson Street.
*A driver was injured and his sport utility vehicle was destroyed in a wreck at 6:08 p.m. Sunday on N.C. 111 near Spring Bank Road, the Highway Patrol said. Ernest Edwin Anderson, 51, of North Beston Road, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with reckless driving. The report said the northbound SUV entered a left curve, ran off the right side, then came back across the center line, ran off the left side and overturned. The SUV was valued at $4,000.
Drugs found
in prison
An inmate at Wayne Correctional Center on Stevens Mill Road was charged Monday by Goldsboro police with felony drug violations. Rodney Smith, 38, was charged with possession of marijuana in prison and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana in prison. The drug was found in his locker, the report said. Smith's secured bond was set at $10,000.
Thefts probed
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*About 1,800 feet of copper wire was stolen between Saturday and Tuesday from the Southco Distributing Co. warehouse at 701 Patetown Road, police said. The thief had damaged a steel gate and a metal door to get inside, the report said. The wire was valued at $7,000. Damages were put at $800.
*About $2,765 worth of property was stolen between June 1 and Monday from a home in the 700 block of Corney Street, police said. The property, owned by Joyce Dawson of Fort Washington, Md., included an antique living room set, an antique bed, a dinette set, a television, a bed spread, a coffee pot, a crockpot, a lamp and a radio.
*A gold bracelet, a leather jacket, three pairs of shoes, four sweaters, six pairs of jeans and a freezer were stolen between July 3 and Monday from a home in the 3700 block of Central Heights Road, police said. The resident, Torey Lashan Carmichael, put a $1,450 value on the missing items.
*A touch-screen compact disc player, 30 to 40 CDs, a radar detector and a phone charger were stolen Monday from a car in the Berkeley Mall parking lot, police said. The owner, Ashley Clifton Forrest II of Goldsboro, said his property was worth more than $1,570.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A golf cart, tools and a trailer were stolen between Monday and Tuesday from the 500 block of Mark Herring Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Kelly Griffin, put a $5,300 value on the property.
*About $81 in coins were stolen Tuesday after a window was smashed at a home in the 300 block of Parkstown Road, deputies said. The coins included six $1 gold pieces. Damage was estimated at $200 at Grace Creech's home.
*A man let a neighbor woman borrow his van Monday in order to pick up her children, and the van was stolen, deputies said. Martha Mariscal Arriaga of Dudley had entered a home on Herring Road but left the keys in the van. The owner, Abel Rubio of Dudley, said his silver and black 1989 Ford Aerostar was worth $3,000.
*A blue, four-door 1996 Mazda Protegé was stolen between Friday and Tuesday from the 300 block of North James Street in Goldsboro, deputies said. The car, owned by Joshua Sutton of Johnston, Iowa, was valued at $1,000.
Weapons charges
A Goldsboro teen-ager was stopped Tuesday by Goldsboro police for a seat-belt violation and then was charged with firearms offenses.
Leon Vinson Jr., 18, of South John Street was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted and misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Larceny
A 27-year-old man has been charged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with larceny by an employee. Robert Eugene Pettiway of Cambria Lane was accused of stealing property from Security Mayflower Co. of Goldsboro, Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden said. Pettiway was released from custody on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
Missing
A 47-year-old man has been reported missing by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Ronnie Clark Ginn Sr. of 109 Country View Lane was described as white, 6-feet-2 and 200 pounds with short black hair, brown eyes and a tattoo on his left arm.
When Ginn was seen last, he was wearing blue shorts and may be driving a 1992 Buick LeSabre. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
Man sought
Information on the location of a small white man, about 21 to 25 years old, is needed by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office to solve a breaking-and-entering case.
The man was described as 5-feet-2 and 120 pounds with a thin build and a Japanese-style tattoo on his upper left arm. He was last seen Monday near Pikeville while wearing dirty blue jeans, a dirty gray T-shirt and flip-flops. He may be from Havelock. The man was driving a mid-1990s mid-size, four-door Dodge car. The auto was missing a hubcap on the passenger side.
