Mount Olive has 9 filers for 3 races

Mount Olive now has nine candidates and three races on this fall's ballot, while four other Wayne County municipalities have no candidates at all.
Filing for the fall elections opened July 1, but so far no one has entered the competition for town board seats in Eureka, Pikeville, Seven Springs or Walnut Creek. No candidates have yet emerged for one sanitary district board.
The deadline for filing is noon Friday, Aug. 5.
In Mount Olive, town commissioners Ora Truzy, District 1, and Paul Smalley, District 2, filed this week. Ms. Truzy, of South Center Street, and Smalley, of Hillsboro Street, had both been expected to seek re-election.
Tom Preston, of Valley Road, has filed in District 3, a seat being vacated by Commissioner Lloyd Warren.
Other Mount Olive candidates are, mayor, incumbent B.R. "Ruff" Huggins; at-large, Rick Kraft, incumbent Ray Thompson; District 2, Hosea Manley; District 3, Billy H. Rivenbark; District 4, incumbent Jimmy Kornegay.
Sam Casey, of Casey Mill Road, is seeking to return to the Southeastern Wayne Sanitary District Board.
Other board candidates are, Belfast-Patetown, Edwin B. Beamon; Eastern Wayne, Ernie Schmid; Fork, Henry Braswell, Dexter Taylor; and Southeastern Wayne, Bobby Outlaw.
