Eden Nethercutt, a 7th-grade student at Princeton School, won the North Carolina Soil and Water Speech Contest held in Raleigh recently. She is Johnston County's first state winner since the speech competition began 25 years ago.
Miss Eden competed against six other 7th-grade students who represented other areas across the state. Her speech was "The Living Soil." She received a plaque and a $200 prize. The competition is sponsored by the N.C. Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
