KENANSVILLE -- Family and friends celebrated the graduation of more than 500 students of James Sprunt Community College programs last week.

More than 200 of the graduates, dressed in the traditional cap and gown, attended the graduation ceremonies and took home associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and high school diploma equivalencies.

Among those attending were members of Andrenna Walker's family - including her five children - who were there to watch her get an Associate in Applied Science degree in cosmetology and a certificate in cosmetology instructor.

"We're just so proud of her," said her mother, Hannah Green. "I've always told my children they're supposed to do more than their parents. I'm working on my master's degree, so she still has some work to do."

Ms. Walker said she does plan to continue to get her bachelor's degree and hopes to teach cosmetology. But at the moment, she was just happy to graduate.

"It was full-time stress," she said with a smile. "It was having a full-time job and being a full-time student and full-time single mom. But it was worth it."
