Police, doughnut shop team up to help Special Olympics

Wayne County law enforcement officers will team with Krispy Kreme on Saturday to collect money for the annual Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Goldsboro police and Wayne County probation and parole officers will collect donations during the "Cops at the Doughnut Shop" program at the doughnut shop at 2601 E. Ash St., from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Officers also will work the counter and drive-through window.
Customers with good aim can try to dunk police and probation officers, including Police Chief Tim Bell. Children can have their faces painted, McGruff the Crime Dog will make an appearance and police vehicles will be on display.
Customers who donate at least $5 will receive a special Krispy Kreme treat. Those donating more than $1,000 will receive a free doughnut party for their employees.

The goal of the torch run is to raise money for Special Olympics. More than $113 million has been raised since 1981 by more than 80,000 officers from many law agencies.
Last year's worldwide torch run raised more than $20.5 million for the Special Olympics.
