Robbery arrest
also yields drugs
The armed robbery of a Dudley resident in a motel room Wednesday was cleared quickly with the arrest of another Dudley resident, Goldsboro police said.
Domonic Lejune Royal, 28, told officers that a man entered his room at the Best Value Inn at about 8 a.m., displayed a handgun and demanded money.
Royal surrendered about $150, and the robber fled from the motel at 703 East Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway.
Later, Officer Dave Cloutier arrested Adam Joseph Barfield, 30, of Mobile Circle on charges of armed robbery, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
After police searched his motel room, Barfield also was charged with possession with intent to sell methamphetamine and cocaine, officers said. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $60,000 secured bond.
During the search, police also arrested Angela Gail Best, 17, of Jim Best Road, Mount Olive, on charges of possession with intent to sell methamphetamine and Ecstasy, possession of cocaine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was jailed in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond.
The Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad, Investigators Neal Lynch and Dwayne Dean and Officer Thomas Collins, Steve Powers and Mark Taylor assisted Cloutier in the investigation and arrest.
Drug charges
Three men were arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses.
Daryl Pittman, 37, of Seneca Drive, LaGrange, and Quashon Marquise Phillips, 23, of Olivia Lane were charged with possession with intent to sell heroin. Pittman also was charged with failure to carry his driver's license and an equipment violation.
Pittman and Phillips were placed in the Wayne County in lieu of $10,000 secured bonds.
David A. Ward, 28, was charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana at Wayne Correctional Center on Stevens Mill Road. His secured bond was set at $10,000.
Theft cleared
The theft of a Suzuki motorcycle and other property on Saturday was cleared Wednesday with the arrest of two people, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
Michael Keith Griffin, 36, and Rhonda Mills Hood, 36, were charged with felony larceny. Griffin was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond. Ms. Hood was jailed in lieu of a $900 secured bond. Neither disclosed a home address.
The motorcycle and other property, two motorcycle helmets and a diamond ring, valued at combined $6,500, have been returned to the owner, James P. Griffin of Ewing Drive, said Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour.
Detective Robert Chunn, Sgt. Ian Barratt and Deputies Carlo Talarico, C.T. Arnold and Jason Hill with his dog, Cora, assisted in the investigation and arrest.
$10,700 stolen
About $10,700, three checks worth $5,500 and video games were stolen Wednesday from a home in the 800 block of Ditchbank Road, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The resident, Lloyd Douglas Jackson, put a $450 value on the nine video games. No sign of forced entry was found.
Sheriff's deputies also are investigating these reports:
*Two golf carts and a utility trailer were stolen from Charlie Waters Golf Cart Rentals at 341 Bryan Blvd. Waters said the golf carts were worth $1,400 each and the trailer was worth $3,200.
*A Polaris four-wheeler was stolen from a shelter in the 200 block of Talton Road. The thief had cut a chain and locks on the four-wheeler that the owner and resident, Thomas Chad Talton, said was valued at $3,500.
Jewelry, cash taken
About $3,500, a diamond ring, a necklace and personal papers were stolen from a home in the 700 block of Third Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
The property was contained in a safe that also was taken. The resident, Durwood Fields, said the jewelry was worth $11,000. No sign of forced entry was reported.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*A magnetic drill, a saw, a grinder and a battery charger were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from JR's Auto Parts Inc. at 724 Marshall St. The property was valued at $4,575. The thief also damaged a fence to get inside and then damaged a cart.
*Video-game equipment, two phones and jewelry were stolen Wednesday from a home in the 900 block of North Center Street. The thief had damaged a garage door and then an interior door to get inside. The resident, Nathan Barnes, put a $1,050 value on the property.
*A video camera was stolen Wednesday after windows were damaged in a home in the 1500 block of Hawthorne Street, police said. One resident, Morad Sarah, estimated the camera's value at $534 and damage at $50.
School damaged
Thieves inflicted about $975 worth of damages between Tuesday and Wednesday in an apparent attempt to find and steal money at Goldsboro High School, a police report said.
The suspects smashed a window to get inside, then cut telephone wires and computer cables and pried open two doors and 12 desk drawers. It was not known if anything were stolen.
Police car crash
A Goldsboro police car was involved in a rear-end crash with another car at 7:14 p.m. Wednesday at East Elm and South George streets, according to a police report.
Officer Karen Z. Powers was charged with failure to reduce speed after the crash. The 2000 Ford police car was not damaged. The other car, driven by Reginald Jerome Woodard, 49, of Carver Drive, sustained an estimated $200 in damages, the report said.
Hit-and-run wreck
A passenger was injured in a two-car, hit-and-run collision at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday at South Andrews Avenue and East Elm Street, Goldsboro police said.
Carolyn Buffalo of South Andrews Avenue was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. She was riding with Koeshyon Ward, 29, of South Alabama Avenue.
Ward's northbound auto was struck by an eastbound auto that did not stop for a red light, police said. Ward's car was knocked across the street into a yard. The other driver fled, the report said.
Chickens die in fire
About a half-dozen chickens were killed Wednesday when a fire damaged a chicken coop at 584 Eagles Nest Road, fire officials said.
Dudley Volunteer Fire Chief Kendall Lee said burning trash ignited the chicken coop and nearby woods. About 40 chickens survived the fire. Damage was limited to about $400 at the Jose Ponce farm.
Twelve Dudley firefighters answered the 2 p.m. call with three trucks and needed about an hour to put out the fire, investigate the cause and finish salvage work. Indian Springs assisted with about 10 volunteers and four units.
Missing
A 16-year-old Southern Academy student was reported missing before dawn today to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Christopher William Hicks of 216 Waldrop Road, Dudley, was described as white, 6 feet tall and 165 pounds with short brown hair and green eyes.
When Hicks was seen last at about 12:50 a.m., he was wearing a gray T-shirt and pants. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
