Thanks, school board!
The Wayne County commissioners praised school board members Tuesday for their willingness to work together on racial imbalance, construction and other school issues.
Commissioner Jack Best said he wanted to thank the school board publicly for its participation in the joint meeting on Dec. 14. "It was very positive, a good start," he said.
Commissioner Andy Anderson said he appreciated that the school board members had different views on some issues, just as the commissioners sometimes do. "We don't always agree, but we put everything on the table, make a decision and then move on."
Commissioner Efton Sager foresees a need for compromise. "We've got to be willing to give some and they've got to give," he said.
The boards are expected to meet again, although a date has not yet been chosen.
Santa's 'sled'
Jim Barnwell of the Dudley community told the county commissioners Tuesday that they might want to send a deputy down Indian Springs Road to find an eyesore vehicle. "I think it belongs to Santa Claus," Barnwell said with a twinkle in his eye.
Fortunately, the old jolly elf was there to defend himself.
"I'll have you know that there's a current inspection sticker on it," Claus said.
Further investigation found out that the vehicle is a vintage pickup truck registered to a Willie Ray Starling, a.k.a. Santa this time of year.
