Robbery attempt
Two men tried to rob a Goldsboro man after he had given them a ride Wednesday night, the Goldsboro Police Department reports.
James Oliver Long Jr., 24, was leaving a club around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by two men who asked him for a ride, police reported. Long drove the two men to Neil Street near North End Park, where he stopped and asked them to get out of his vehicle.
One of the men grabbed Long's keys and demanded money, Long said. When he didn't give it, the man hit him in the face.
Long reportedly then pushed the men out of the vehicle, grabbed his keys from the ground and drove off. A door accidentally struck one of the men.
The two men were described as black, in their early 20s, both wearing dark colored clothing. They were last seen running south toward Ash Street.
Shots fired
Shots were fired around 1 a.m. Thursday at Luby Coley's home in the 1000 block of North James Street.
Goldsboro police found a broken window and a bullet hole in the front vinyl siding. Neither Coley nor family members were injured.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A passerby noticed Thursday evening that a door was broken at Dillard Middle School on Devereaux Street. Police responded but did not find anything missing. Damage was estimated at $150.
*Two lawnmowers, a chain saw and other equipment, with a total value of more than $2,200, was stolen from a shed behind a home in the 1800 block of East Elm Street. Donna Howell reported the theft Thursday.
*Someone broke into Christina Gail Oliver's home in the 200 block of Courtyard Circle while she was asleep Thursday morning and stole a $1,000 stereo.
*A cinderblock was thrown this week through a window in a vacant house in the 300 block of Whitfield Drive. The damage was discovered Thursday.
*A rear window was broken and a $1,150 stereo taken from a 1994 Nissan parked in the 100 block of Vanderbilt Circle. Jose Luis Rico-Mejia reported the damage and theft Wednesday.
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*James Dean Elswick, 35, of Louisville Road, was struck several times with a lead pipe around 1:45 a.m. Thursday after getting into an argument with an in-law in his home. Elswick was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. No arrest was reported.
*A guest at a party Thursday on Running Deer Circle, Dudley, got into an argument with another person and then did $650 in damage to vehicle windows. No arrest was reported.
*Betty Gregory of Timothy Street, Dudley, reported the theft of 25 CDs and a wallet from her car on Wednesday.
*Taylor Willa McKinzie reported the theft of a pocketbook with $150 in cash Thursday from her home in the 100 block of Trailwood Drive.
*Someone broke into Sherry Ann Johnson's home in the 100 block of Colonial Warrick Road, Dudley, on Thursday and took $30 in cash and $50 in jewelry.
*James Robert Lane reported the theft of a $120 revolver from his home in the 200 block of Mince Hill Road.
*Sheila Marie Witthoft of Odom Farm Road left $300 worth of clothing unattended for an hour Wednesday at a laundromat at 2493 U.S. 117 South. When she returned the clothing was missing.
*A $400 air compressor is missing from a house in the 100 block of Westbrook Road. Jim Raeford Jones reported the theft Thursday.
*Shataskea Denae Sims reported the theft Thursday of two gold necklaces and a handgun from her home in the 100 block of Carmel Lane, Dudley.
*Someone broke into Natalie Renee Howell's home in the 100 block of Nandina Place on Thursday and ransacked the bedroom. Nothing was reported stolen.
