Swearing-in

The Wayne County Board of Education will swear in three returning board members at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the board room of the administrative offices on Royall Avenue.

Board members Pete Gurley, Shirley Sims and Thelma Smith won re-election this month and will serve four-year terms.

The reception will be followed by the Board of Education meeting. A closed session begins at 4 p.m. followed by a public session.

ESL classes

This spring, free classes will be offered through Wayne Community College for people who want to learn to speak English.

English-as-a-second-language classes will be held at the Goldsboro campus, as well as in Pikeville, Mount Olive and other locations.

There will be day, evening and weekend classes beginning the first week of January.

An orientation session is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, in Room 140 of the Hocutt Building at Wayne Community College.
