Drug charges
A 20-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Monday night during a traffic stop by Goldsboro police and charged with three felony drug offenses.
Demetrius Montray Kornegay of Devereaux Street was charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession, by sale and by delivery. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $60,000 secured bond.
Woman robbed
A Goldsboro woman was robbed Monday of her pocketbook by a gun-wielding woman in the 300 block of West Grantham Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
When Hilda Johnson returned at about 2:15 p.m. to her apartment, the robber demanded to see the resident's pocketbook and to give back her possessions, the report said.
But Ms. Johnson refused and said, "I don't know what you are talking about." Then the robber pulled out a handgun from her waistband and demanded the pocketbook, police said.
The robber pushed Ms. Johnson into a glass door, breaking it, grabbed the pocketbook, valued at $20, and drove off in a red car, the report said.
Ms. Johnson was treated by emergency medical personnel for a cut hand.
The robber was described as black with a slim build, and she wore a gray shirt, blue pants and tan shoes.
Four hurt in wrecks
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $38,800 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol said.
*Three people were injured and the sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 8:10 p.m. Saturday on Ditchbank Road near Wood Peck Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Malaquias L. Lopez, 20, of Shade Tree Lane, Seven Springs, and two passengers, Karla Garcia, 12, and, Celina Garcia, 20, both of Dollard Town Road, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Lopez was charged with reckless driving after the SUV ran off the right side in a curve, then came back across the road and ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. The SUV was valued at $4,000.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a two-vehicle accident at 4:30 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 55 near N.C. 403, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Richard W. Strickland, 28, of West Pine Forest Road, Mount Olive, swerved to miss a car leaving a driveway, and troopers said the SUV ran off the right side and overturned. The other driver, Mitchell Gant Abrams, 22, of North Johnson Street, Mount Olive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The SUV was valued at $18,000; the car was not damaged.
*A driver suffered minor injuries in a one-car crash at 11:25 p.m. Saturday on Pikeville-Princeton Road near Nor-Am Road, the Highway Patrol said. Kimberly Diane Ponte, 34, of Rockwell Lane, Princeton, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after her car ran off the right side and struck 11 mail boxes, a ditch and a tree. Damages were put at $3,800.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 3:05 p.m. Friday on Perkins Mill Road near U.S. 70, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Lisa S. Knoll, 32, of J.J. Lane, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other motorist was identified as Tonia Melisse Jones, 26, of Outlaw Road, Mount Olive.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:30 p.m. Friday on Miller's Chapel Road near Powell Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Ernest Ray Perry, 45, of Meadowcrest Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver, Henrietta C. Best, 70, of Miller's Chapel, was turning into a driveway.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Five gold rings, 10 DVD movies, a DVD player, senior class pictures, a calculator and a book bag were stolen Monday after a window was damaged at a home in the 145 block of Guinevere Lane, sheriff's deputies said. The thief also damaged a television, a bed, an entertainment center and other property. The resident, L.C. Spruill, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,341 and set damages at $730.
*A thief on Monday inflicted an estimated $250 in damages to a door at a home in the 200 block of Gold Leaf Drive in order to steal a checkbook and a can of pennies, deputies said. The resident, Marion Edward Williams Jr., said the stolen property was worth $15.
*Nine calculators were stolen between Wednesday and Monday after a filing cabinet was forced open at Wayne Community College, Goldsboro police said. The calculators were valued at $792.
