Trash, office schedule
Goldsboro city and Wayne County government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Schools will be out Wednesday through Friday.
Trash pickup scheduled in Goldsboro for Thursday or Friday will be picked up Wednesday.
Kenansville parade
Susan Smith McLemore, whose husband is fighting in Iraq, will be the grand marshal in the Kenansville Christmas Parade, which will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Mrs. McLemore will be accompanied in the parade by her five children. She was chosen as grand marshal to recognize the service of her husband, Staff Sgt. Jeffrey McLemore, who is fighting in the war in Iraq with the N.C. National Guard. He is a member of a Wilmington Guard unit, which is a part of the 120th Regiment. The parent unit, the 30th Heavy Separate Brigade, is based in Clinton.
The Kenansville Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the parade for the first time this year, also chose Mrs. McLemore to serve as grand marshal to recognize the sacrifice she and her family are making while their husband and father is away from home.
Also featured in this year's parade will be Santa Claus, beauty queens, elected officials, the James Kenan High School Marching Band and Sudan Temple Shrine units like the Dunn Clowns and the miniature NASCAR racers.
MOC graduation
Around 315 students will graduate from Mount Olive College during the 51st fall commencement at 2 p.m. on Dec. 18 in College Hall.
The speaker will be Dr. Donald Ribeiro, a Greenville physician, a Free Will Baptist minister and a trustee of Mount Olive College.
Preceding the graduation ceremony will be the commencement worship service at 10:30 a.m. in Rodgers Chapel, with Dr. K. David Hines, chairman of the Department of Religion, as speaker.
Blood needed
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross is asking residents to take a few minutes of their time this holiday week to donate blood.
Don Best, blood services director, said this is a challenging time of year for blood collections due to the holidays. But this is also the time of year when blood is needed most, because more people are traveling for the holidays. More accidents happen, increasing the need for blood.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.
Bloodmobiles will be held today at Georgia Pacific, Wednesday at the Red Cross Chapter House at 600 N. George St., and Nov. 29 at Oak Forest Road Church of Christ.
