MOUNT OLIVE -- Entries are being accepted for Mount Olive's annual Christmas parade, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Lineup will begin at 9 a.m. at the corner of Henderson Street and Breazeale Avenue.

Prizes include trophies for "Best Fire Unit" and "Best Rescue Unit." Participation plaques will be awarded to each band entry. Cash prizes will be awarded in the "Best Homemade Float" competition, including $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.

Due to long gaps in past parades, it is requested that all performances be staged only near the PACC 10 Television cameras, which will be stationed at the Piggly Wiggly shopping area. All entrants that have music are asked to play Christmas or patriotic music or both and keep marching throughout the parade route. Rescue and fire units are asked not to sound sirens.

The parade route will begin at Mount Olive Centre and go along Breazeale Avenue to Pollock Street, turn left on Center Street and end at the Mount Olive Fire Department. Participants will be assisted in the lineup by members of the Mount Olive Jaycees.

There is a $25 entry fee for all motorized vehicles and homemade floats competing for cash prizes and a $10 entry fee for walking groups and horses.

Deadline for entries is Monday, Nov. 29. Names will be added to the lineup following receipt of the entry fee. Late comers will be placed in the lineup on Saturday morning.

The parade is sponsored by the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce. For information, contact Linda Outlaw at the chamber office, 658-3113.
