Wanted
Goldsboro police are seeking information on the location of two men who are wanted on felony charges.
Dwayne Lee Hardy, 20, is being sought on charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, sale and delivery of cocaine and conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine. He also is wanted on three outstanding arrest orders.
Ivan Devon Harvey Jr., 20, is being sought on a charge of armed robbery. He was described as black, 5-feet-7 and 145 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. His last-known address was on Birddog Lane at Dudley.
Anyone with information on the location of either man was asked to call police at 705-6572 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards, if their information leads to an arrest.
Child starts fire
A 4-year-old child playing with matches on Sunday started a mobile home fire that caused about $50,000 in damages near Dudley.
The fire started at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday at 162 Burke St. The family escaped, but their home was heavily damaged, Dudley Fire Chief Kendall Lee said.
Fifteen Dudley firefighters contained the fire in a bedroom and a bathroom, but smoke and water from fire hoses damaged the remainder of the home. Mar Mac assisted with about 12 volunteers and three trucks. They remained about an hour and a half at the home.
The home was valued at $60,000, and contents were valued at $20,000. Damage was estimated at $40,000 to the home and $10,000 to the contents, Lee said.
Neighbor saves home
A neighbor's call for help Wednesday prevented significant damage in a mobile home fire near Eureka, officials said.
Unattended cooking was blamed for a fire at 103 Dotsie Drive, Eureka Fire Chief Mike Brock reported.
The resident, Tim Pleasants, "was mighty lucky," Brock said. An unidentified neighbor saw the fire and called 911.
"There was a bunch of mess on the stove," Brock said. "I assumed that the pot was thrown outside."
Thirteen Eureka volunteers answered the 5 p.m. call with three trucks, and about 12 Faro volunteers assisted with three trucks. They needed about 30 minutes to investigate the cause and to ventilate the home.
Drug charges
Two men were arrested by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Dexter Jermal Middleton, 23, of Randolph Street was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond. Middleton was the 13th person arrested after a two-month undercover drug campaign. Twelve more people remain at large.
*Larry Junior Bell, 19, of Tommy's Road was arrested before dawn today on Central Heights Road and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He also was charged with two misdemeanor counts of communicating threats and one count of injury to property. He was jailed in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A thief threw a brick through a door glass at the Trade Oil Co. gas station at 400 E. Ash St. before dawn today, inflicting an estimated $400 in damages, police said. Then the thief stole 13 packs of cigarettes, valued at $35. Four packs were recovered, the report said.
*A combination VCR and DVD player, a compact disc player, a MP player and foreign money were stolen Wednesday from a home in the 1400 block of Palm Street, police said. The thief had forced a door open to get inside. The resident, Brian D. Hussey, put a $330 value on the stolen property. No damage estimate was listed.
Eleven injured
in Wayne collisions
Eleven people were injured and damages were estimated at $65,500 in nine recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $12,800 in a three-car wreck at 5:20 p.m. Monday at U.S. 70 and Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Myron Mooney Angell, 65, of Hubert was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. A second driver, Christopher Ian Caldwell, 28, of Clayton, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Caldwell's southbound car collided with Angell's eastbound auto. The impact of the collision sent both cars into a stopped, northbound auto driven by Mark Carlton Fairchild, 48, of Ava Street.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 3:10 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 13 near U.S. 117, the Highway Patrol said. Demarcus Montreal Seaberry, 17, of Dawson Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. He also was charged with not having a driver's license. The car ran off the right side, struck a ditch and a fire hydrant and overturned. Damages were put at $6,600.
*A passenger was injured in a one-car crash at 2:40 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 581 near Nahunta Road, the Highway Patrol said. Quantrell West, 13, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. The driver, Larry Ray Ward, 55, of Durham Lake Road said he was distracted when he reached for an object, and the car ran off the right side, struck a highway sign and the end of a concrete bridge railing and stopped in the left lane. Damages were set at $4,100.
*A motorist was injured and his car was demolished in a wreck at 8:30 p.m. Friday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Stoney Creek Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Christopher Joseph Langer, 19, of Bennett's Bridge Road, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. The car ran off the right side out of control and struck a ditch, troopers said. Langer was charged with exceeding a safe speed and not having liability insurance. Damages were fixed at $5,000.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-car collision at 3:05 p.m. Friday at Emmaus Church and Sleepy Creek roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, James Matthew Dant, 18, of Peachtree Drive, and his passenger, Ashley Parker, 17, of Willow Road, Dudley, and the other driver, Jason Anthony Brown, 17, of Overman Road, were released after emergency-room treatment. Brown was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign after the eastbound car that he was driving collided with Dant's southbound auto.
*A passenger from Goldsboro was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:43 a.m. Friday at Airport and Norwayne School roads, the Highway Patrol said. Alexis Richardson, 13, of Kennon Court was released after emergency-room treatment. Her driver, Luciana Katrina Rowls, 29, of Kennon Court, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Troopers said Ms. Rowls was making a left turn and her car collided with an oncoming, southbound sport utility vehicle driven by Victoria Lynn Joyner, 24, of Sharpsburg.
*Two passengers were injured in a two-car collision at 7:40 a.m. Friday at Old Mount Olive Road and Boykin Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Thomasina Lee, 36, of Wells Court, Dudley, was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Alvin Holder, 26, of Evergreen Avenue was released after emergency-room treatment. Holder's driver, Carmecia Chantelle Barnes, 19, of Evergreen Avenue, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said Ms. Barnes had pulled from Boykin Drive and the car that she was driving collided with a northbound auto operated by Ms. Lee's driver, Cynthia McCullen Powell, 53, of Maple Street. Damages were put at $2,000.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $11,500 in a two-vehicle wreck at 7:50 a.m. Friday at Lancaster and Big Daddy's roads, the Highway Patrol said. Sarah Anne Shoop, 17, of Decoy Drive, Pikeville, was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other motorist, Dean Scott Gehron, 39, of Rosewood Road, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. Gehron's northbound pickup collided with the westbound car that Ms. Shoop was driving, troopers said.
*Damages were estimated at $12,000 in a two-car collision at 3:10 p.m. Friday at U.S. 117 and West Main Street, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Doris J. Ellis, 77, of N.C. 55 West, Mount Olive, was charged with a stop-sign violation. The report said her eastbound auto collided with a southbound car driven by Jose Albarran, 25, of Plantation Road, Warsaw.
