10 people injured
in county collisions
Ten people were injured and damages were estimated at $106,900 in nine recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $20,000 in a two-truck collision at 11:15 a.m. Sunday at Outlaw and Potts roads, the Highway Patrol said. James Herman Braswell, 45, of Fulton Road, Dudley, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. He was charged with driving while impaired and driving left of center. Braswell's truck ran off the right side and struck two mail boxes, and then struck an oncoming, westbound truck, the report said. The other motorist was listed as Lisa S. Lozier, 41, of Crows Foot Road, Mount Olive.
*A passenger was injured and both vehicles were demolished in a crash at 4:37 a.m. Saturday at New Hope and Miller's Chapel roads, the Highway Patrol said. Christina Perez, 21, of North Center Street was released after emergency-room treatment. Her driver, Patricia Lorraine Dobles, 29, of South Pineview Avenue, was charged with a yield violation at stop sign. The report said Ms. Dobles' northbound car collided with a westbound sport utility vehicle driven by Bruce Alan Burridge, 44, of Darrel Road, LaGrange. The vehicles were valued at $19,000.
*Damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-car, hit-and-run wreck at 5:01 p.m. Saturday on Mince Hill Road near River Road, the Highway Patrol said. The northbound car weaved down the road, ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. The driver fled, troopers said. The report said the car was registered to Kristie Lane Lee of N.C. 111 South, Seven Springs.
*A driver was injured and damages were put at $6,000 in a two-truck collision at 5:34 p.m. Saturday at U.S. 70 and Capps Bridge Road, the Highway Patrol said. Steve Jones Croom, 39, of Kinston was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other motorist, Kayla Elizabeth Smith, 16, of Pinkney Road, Fremont, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said she had tried to cross the median and the pickup that she was driving collided with Croom's westbound pickup.
*A driver was injured and both vehicles were demolished in a crash at 8:20 a.m. Saturday at U.S. 13 and Overman Road, the Highway Patrol said. Melvin Lee Weeks, 37, of Old Grantham Road was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, J. Delores Campos, 50, of Newton Grove, was charged with reckless driving and failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The vehicles were valued at $24,000.
*A driver was injured and her car was demolished in a wreck at 1 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 581 near Williams Road, the Highway Patrol said. Vicki P. Finch, 41, of Piney Grove Church Road, Kenly, was released after emergency-room treatment. She also was charged with a lane control violation. Her car ran off the right side, came back on the road, then ran off the right side again, struck a ditch and overturned. The car was valued at $14,000.
*Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:18 p.m. Friday on Old Grantham Road near Providence Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Dina Marilu Guevara Alvarado, 26, and her passengers, Cynthia Alvarado, 7, and Jacob Alvarado, 18 months, all of Scarlet Lane, Faison, and the other driver, Sharon Tonnette Phillips, 33, and a passenger, James Phillips, 34, both of Artis Road, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. Sharon Phillips was charged with driving left of center after the vehicles sideswiped.
*Damages were estimated at more than $6,900 in a three-vehicle, hit-and-run crash at 8 a.m. Friday on Pecan Road near Arrington Bridge Road (N.C. 581), the Highway Patrol said. Two drivers, Carlos Francisco Aleman, 35, of Albertson and Larry Darnell Stephens, 45, of Maple Street, had stopped for traffic. Aleman's car was rear-ended by another car whose driver fled.
*Damages were fixed at $5,000 in a two-car accident at 2:40 p.m. Oct. 13 at N.C. 581 and Riverbend Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Kimberly Rose McNally, 19, of Bryant Street, Fremont, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck. The other motorist, Kenneth Jerome Johnson, 54, of Summer Wind Drive, had stopped to make a left turn, the report said.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A green 1994 International tractor cab was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a logging site off Herring Road, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, Danny K. Mills of Mount Olive, put a $13,000 value on the truck.
*A combination radio and compact disc player and other stereo equipment were stolen between Oct. 8 and Wednesday after a car window, dashboard and trunk were damaged in the 1600 block of Old Grantham Road, deputies said. The owner, Royce Eugene Joyner of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,000 and damage at $1,600.
*A black, two-door 1988 Buick Regal was stolen Wednesday from the 200 block of Little Dove Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, Stephanie Davis, said the car was worth $1,500.
Break-ins
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A black leather coat, a television, a DVD player, an electric heater and a checkbook were stolen between Sunday and Wednesday from a home in the 300 block of South John Street, police said. The resident, Gabriellen Johnson, told police that the suspect had called her and said he had kicked in the door. The stolen property was valued at about $540.
*An estimated $592 worth of tools were stolen between Sept. 19 and Wednesday after a workshop door was pried open in the 2000 block of North Berkeley Boulevard, police said. The resident, Harold L. Coltrane, reported the theft of a chain saw, four drills, a grinder, a 100-piece tool set, a battery charger and an impact tool.
*A game set, a book bag and two drinks were stolen Wednesday after a door glass was smashed at a home in the 400 block of Cardinal Drive, police said. The resident, T.D. Dilworth, estimated the property's value at $112 and damage at $75.
*Seven vehicles were damaged between Tuesday and Wednesday at Rohr Tires Inc. at 1808 N. William St., police said. The estimated damages totaled $2,175. Nothing was reported stolen.
*Two plate-glass windows were smashed between Tuesday and Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic School at 1601 Edgerton St., police said. Damage was put at $800.
Drug charge
A 30-year-old woman from Dudley was arrested Wednesday night by Goldsboro police on Courtyard Circle and charged with two felony drug offenses.
Jeannette Katrina Darden of Hopesway Drive was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Correction
Caleb Cornelius Green, an inmate charged with a felony assault, was being housed at Wayne Correctional Institution, not Neuse Correctional Institution, as was reported in Wednesday's News-Argus.
