Hazel memories sought
Do you remember Hurricane Hazel?
If so, the News-Argus wants to hear from you.
On Oct. 15, 1954, Hazel hit Goldsboro head-on, causing millions of dollars in damage. Weather observers said winds hit 120 mph and were sustained at over 80 mph from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Fair share finalist
Ava Brewinton, who works at Wayne Memorial Hospital, is the fifth finalist in United Way's Fair Share Challenge.
Six more people are will be picked for a shot at a new truck from Goldsboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep.
Weekly drawings to pick the finalists are held each Saturday through Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at Goldsboro Jeep. To be eligible, a donor must contribute "fair share" to United Way of Wayne County. Fair share is one hour's pay per month or one percent of annual salary.
The final drawing will be held Nov. 20 when each of the 11 finalists pick a key in the order that they qualified. The finalist whose key starts the truck will win.
DuBois to visit Goldsboro
Raymond DuBois, the undersecretary of defense for installations and environment, will be visiting Seymour Johnson Air Force Base on Wednesday to discuss environmental issues affecting the base.
The Military Affairs Committee and Seymour Support Council will be the hosts of a reception for DuBois at the Goldsboro Country Club on Wednesday.
DuBois is the adviser to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for the Base Realignment and Closure Process scheduled for next year and is visiting bases throughout North Carolina.
Reservation deadline
Friday at 4 p.m. is the deadline for reservations for the annual award luncheon for the Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities.
Donna R. Walton, a certified cognitive behavioral therapist, will be the guest speaker.
The luncheon will held Friday, Oct. 15, at noon at the Goldsboro Country Club. The luncheon will cost $10 per person. Only checks or cash will be accepted at the door. Make checks payable to the Mayor's Committee.
