The Walnut Creek Village Council voted Monday to accept T.A. Loving's bid of $1.6 million to complete the village's sewer plant project.

Work on the project will include connecting to the Goldsboro sewage plant and repairing the village's aging and dilapidated sewage lines.

Village Administrator Lou Cook says the work should be completed within six months.

The village's sewer permit expired in 2003, but the state has given Walnut Creek an extension.

Walnut Creek expected to begin constructing a sewer line to Goldsboro's plant earlier this year, but the state was slow in approving various phases of the project.

T.A. Loving got the project with the low bid of $1.7 million, but negotiations with the company brought the bid down.

"We got them to agree to some things," said Cook. "There were instances where some things could be changed, like changing from a propane fueled generator to a diesel fueled generator, which didn't change the nature of the project."
