Retired judge runs for Duplin school board

Stephen M. (Steve) Williamson, a retired chief District Court judge and farmer, has announced his candidacy for the Duplin County Board of Education.
He is seeking the seat for District 1, which includes parts of Faison, Kenansville, Warsaw and all of the Calypso precinct.
Williamson said he believes that in this election, the future of the schools in Duplin County will be decided for years to come. He said he believes that the success of children depends upon a safe, disciplined and effective learning environment. He plans to look for new, better and innovative ways to prepare children for the future.
The candidate is the son of the late Sheriff D.S. and Margaret M. Williamson of Kenansville. He is married to Nancy Alphin Williamson, a former Duplin County school teacher and retired speech and language pathologist. The couple had three children, Stephen M. Williamson Jr., David Gilbert Williamson (deceased) and Nancy W. Stewart.
Williamson said his experiences as a family man, grandparent, community and church leader will be beneficial to him as a member of the Duplin County Board of Education. He said he wants to see his grandchildren as well as all Duplin County children receive a quality education from its school system.
