Mrs. Askeland

Mary Ashley Worley of Raleigh, formerly of Princeton, and Bret Jay Askeland of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Mason City, Iowa, exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 8, 2013, at 6 p.m. at The Sutherland in Wake Forest, N.C., with the Rev. Jay Minnick officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Robert Wilton and Mary Lou Worley of Princeton and the granddaughter of Audrey Mozingo Worley and the late Wilton Dewitt Worley of Princeton and Beatrice Dail Ennis and the late Walter Greene Ennis Jr. of Farmville.

The bride is a 2002 graduate of Rosewood High School and a 2006 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing. She is pursuing a master’s degree in nurse anesthesia from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro at Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia. She is employed as a registered ICU nurse at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC.

The groom is the son of Jerry J. and Jane E. Askeland of Mason City, Iowa, and the grandson of the late Johannes and Gladys B. Askeland of Corwith, Iowa, and Mrs. Ardis M. Ellwood and the late Stanley K. Ellwood of Forest City, Iowa.

The groom is a 2000 graduate of Mason High School in Mason City, Iowa, and a 2004 graduate of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science and a minor in math. He is employed as a senior software engineer at Allscripts in Raleigh, N.C.

The bride was escorted by father, Robert W. Worley, and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a strapless gown of ivory Alencon lace with an elongated bodice and sweetheart neckline featuring a three-tiered hem and chapel-length train. It was accentuated with a crystal-embellished belt at the natural waist. The chapel-length mantilla of French illusion was encircled with appliques of chantilly lace.

The hand-tied bouquet consisted of peonies, roses and hydrangeas.

Mrs. Jana Askeland, sister-in-law of groom and friend of bride, served as matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Mrs. Jennifer Worley of Clyde, N.C., sister-in-law of the bride, and Mrs. Erin Prange of Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Tammy Snyder of Baltimore, Md., and Dr. Sarah Rhodes of Cary, N.C., friends of the bride.

Mr. Erik Askeland, brother of the groom, served as best man.

Groomsmen were Mr. Scot Worley of Clyde, N.C., brother of the bride, and Mr. Aaron Coffeen of Albuquerque, N.M., Mr. Paul Birdsall of Fort Collins, Colo., and Mr. Gabe Nanaziashvili of Clive, Iowa, friends of the groom.

Junior groomsmen were Carter Worley and Bryce Worley, nephews of the bride.

Ushers were Mr. Chad Kain of Grimes, Iowa; Mr. Ryan Overholt of Madison, Wisc.; Mr. Erik Fern of Decorah, Iowa; and Mr. Scott Roland of Corona Del Mar, Calf.

Baby flower girl was Finley Worley, niece of the bride.

Master Foster Worley, nephew of the bride, was ringbearer.

Ashlee Adams directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Mrs. Ana Atlee. Mr. Stephen Rhodes distributed programs.

Readers at the ceremony were Mr. Gary Rhodes, Mrs. Hilary Delbridge and Mrs. Kristen Fox.

A program of wedding music was provided by Mr. Earl Worley Jr., vocalist.

Following ceremony, a reception was held at The Sutherland. DJ Mike Morse provided music.

After a wedding trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple resides in Raleigh, N.C.

A rehearsal dinner was held Friday, June 7, 2013, at Residents Lodge at Highland Creek in Raleigh, N.C., hosted by groom’s parents.

Events held before the wedding included an engagement party Sept. 15, 2012, at Goose Creek Landing hosted by parents of the bride and groom; an engagement party Dec. 23 given by Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Askeland, in Mason City, Iowa; a bachelorette weekend April 5-7 in Williamsburg, Va.; a bridal shower April 14 hosted by family and friends at the home of Melissa and Earl Worley, Princeton, N.C.; a bridal shower brunch April 28 at the home of Mrs. Jana Askeland in Wake Forest, N.C., and hosted by Ms. Ashley Dempsey and Mrs. Jana Askeland; a bridal shower May 14 hosted by Rex Hospital ICU co-workers of the bride; and a bachelor’s weekend March 28 in Dillon, Colo.
